SSRA Combined Open Squadded Rifle Meeting 2025 - A Pictorial Record

The weekend of the Staffordshire Combined Open Squadded Rifle Meeting 2025 was greeted with the promise of glorious sunshine, searing temperatures, with perhaps the chance of a spot or two of rain in the air. Would this forecast of typical British weather - changing minute by minute as so often is the case - cast a shadow on the proceedings? Not at all. If anything, it contributed to a rather exciting weekend for all involved.
The conditions for the Saturday details, which are always reserved for the organisers of the event to enable them to get their competition targets shot and scored, were challenging to say the least. Bright sunshine combined with a blustery breeze made life on the firing line a little testing at times! But never to be daunted by the changeable weather, this band of competitors rose to the occasion, and battled through the conditions with eager gusto!
However, the weather which greeted the main group of competitors for the Sunday details couldn't have been more different. Cloudy skies, persistent drizzle, and a very heavy downpour thrown in for good measure, was finally rounded off by glorious sunshine! All that was missing was snow and hail for the full set of climatic possibilities. Thankfully, the Gods of Weather were kind enough to spare everyone that. Admirably, and with supreme resilience and determination, the hardy folks dodging a drenching between target changes made light of it. Perplexing, frustrating, but at the same time a very exciting, testing, and enjoyable day for everyone!
As always, there was a healthy turnout of competitors for the event, if a little lower than in previous years. This didn't dilute the excitement and anticipation in any way though, as shoulder to shoulder, shots were released, smiles were plentiful, and cheerful banter abounded throughout. All in all, another very enjoyable Open was witnessed once again.
Shown below, and over the following pages, are a selection of photographs which were taken at the event, and which hopefully will serve as a happy reminder of what occurred on that special Sunday.
