Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association can now confirm the date and venue for the forthcoming Extraordinary General Meeting.
The date will be Sunday 4th December 2022, commencing at 10:30 a.m.
The venue being The Chipperfield Ranges, Baldwin's Gate, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 5EA.
SSRA Air Section - Individual Air Pistol And Air Rifle Leagues - Summer 2022 - Medal Presentations

The summer of 2022 saw a very productive season for members of the City of Stoke Rifle and Pistol Club.
Over the past few seasons the tally of medals that have been presented to various shooters from the club when competing in the SSRA Individual 10 Metres Air Pistol and 10 Metres Air Rifle Leagues has steadily increased. This season was to be no exception - having outstripped their previous achievements.
The SSRA Air Section - 10 Metres Individual Leagues - Summer 2022 provided stiff competition in the Air Pistol League, Air Rifle 'A' League and Air Rifle 'B' League. In total 9 medals would be awarded over the season, with City of Stoke Rifle and Pistol Club winning an incredible 7 out of the 9 medals on offer. An amazing achievement by all.
Shown below are photographs taken at the presentation of the medals on Monday 3rd October 2022, at the City of Stoke RPC base at Baldwins Gate. The other medal winner from the club, Glen Eldershaw, was unfortunately unavailable to attend the presentations.

Temporary Closure Of All Chipperfield Ranges - Monday 19th September 2022

Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association advises that on Monday 19th September 2022, all ranges on the Chipperfield Ranges complex will be closed for the whole of the day. The ranges will re-open on Tuesday 20th September 2022, as usual.
This decision has been made in order to honour the life of Queen Elizabeth II, and pay tribute to her contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect during the State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.
SSRA would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.

Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association would like to convey it's sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the announcement of the devastating news that Queen Elizabeth II - the UK's longest serving Monarch - has sadly passed away.
A life loyally devoted to serving the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth with the utmost dignity, compassion, and respect.
God Bless, Your Majesty, may you rest in peace.
Temporary Closure Of Chipperfield 'D' Range - Sunday 24th July 2022

The SSRA advises that on Sunday 24th July 2022, Chipperfield 'D' Range will be closed from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
This is to facilitate the respectful scattering of the ashes of former SSRA Secretary Mrs Sue Willcox within 'D' Range.
All are most welcome to attend this ceremony, which will commence at 10:30 a.m. prompt.
SSRA would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and co-operation.
Donation Of A Bench By The Members Of The Former Chipperfield TSC

Earlier this year, one of our Affiliated Clubs - Chipperfield TSC - made the difficult decision to formally cease its activities and close down permanently, after a period of 26 years in existence.
Shown below is the brief article and photographs, submitted by Mr. Fred Dukes, former member of the Chipperfield TSC.
'The Club was created initially to provide a platform for outdoor prone shooters to shoot as a team in NSRA National postal competitions. Members were attracted from Home Office Approved Clubs where there weren't sufficient members interested in outdoor shooting to make up a team. In addition, the club moved on to attract members for various other disciplines also.
Resulting from the cash assets available after the closure of the Chipperfield TSC, the membership of Chipperfield TSC agreed to purchase a bench which has been donated to the SSRA, and sited on the verandah of the main Clubhouse of the Chipperfield Ranges as a lasting remembrance of Chipperfield TSC.
The above photograph shows the plaque mounted on the bench, and sited on the verandah of the main Clubhouse of the Chipperfield Ranges.
The inscription on the brass plate mounted on the bench reads as follows: 'Donated by Chipperfield Target Shooting Club. 1996 - 1922.'

Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association - Air Section - Individual Leagues - Summer 2022
The SSRA - Air Section – Individual Leagues - Summer 2022 will nominally commence on Monday 28th March 2022.
Air Rifle and Air Pistol will shoot 4 cards, 5 shots per card, for each round.
All shooting must take place at your club range, or at another club range; this must be agreed with the club airgun captain or SSRA Airgun Secretary. Failure to abide with this instruction will mean disqualification from the competition.
Stickers must be affixed to the front of targets before shooting commences.
Shooting may start once the stickers are received.
Please note the last dates for shooting the rounds are as follows:
Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association Secretary - Margaret Susan Willcox (Sue) - Funeral Details

The above photograph shows Margaret Susan Willcox.
It is with deep regret that Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association has to formally announce that SSRA Secretary - Margaret Susan Willcox (Sue) - aged 79 - sadly passed away on Tuesday 7th December 2021, as a result of a heart attack.
The funeral will be at 12 noon on Wednesday 26th January 2022, at the East Chapel, Streetly Crematorium, 296 Little Hardwick Road, Walsall, WS9 0SG.
Sue wouldn't want this to be a miserable occasion, so please no mourning attire. It is also her wish that there are no flowers, but donations please to Cancer Research UK. Cheques should be sent to Hodgson and Sons, 657 Kingstanding Road, Birmingham, B44 9RH, up to the date of the funeral, at which there will be a collection box.
Following the service, Sue's family warmly invite you to join them at Druids Heath Golf Club, Stonnal Road. Aldridge, Walsall, WS9 8JZ for light refreshments. If you would care to join the family for refreshments after the service, then please contact Mike Willcox.
Sue was elected Secretary of the City of Birmingham Rifle Club in 1991, a position she held to this day except for a few years' break from 2007 to 2012. In 1996 she qualified as a Club Rifle Instructor. Sue was for many years a scorer for the N.S.R.A. and Midland Leagues and also Secretary and Organiser of the Black Country League and scorer until the league changed to self-scoring.
In 2013, Sue was elected Secretary of the Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association, a position which she still held to her demise due to a heart attack on the 7th December 2021.
God Bless Sue, may you rest in peace. You will be truly missed by everyone who knew you.
Sincere condolences to Mike and all the family, from all connected with the Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association.

Disabled Shooters - Do You Need A Dispensation?
Are you a shooter with a disability, and whom would like to compete in target shooting? If the answer is yes, then you may find the following article a very interesting read.

Do you need a Dispensation?
Question: What is it for?
Answer: It allows less able and disabled shooters to take part in competitions.
At present the National Smallbore Rifle Association is the only national governing body to have this arrangement for full integration of disabled and non-disabled shooters in almost all of its competitions.
The DSP has been working with other governing bodies regarding arrangements that may make competitions in other target shooting disciplines more accessible for disabled shooters.
The National Rifle Association allows dispensations for competitors at its national meetings. The CPSA is considering whether this sort of scheme will be appropriate for disabled clay target shooters.
The NSRA's Dispensation System
Part 1 – The Problem.
Many people in target shooting have some physical reason for not being able to shoot with entirely 'conventional' equipment or technique. If this means that they do not comply with the standard technical rules, on the face of it they cannot take part in competitions shot under those rules.
These people range from those who have a relatively minor condition to those with significant disabilities. In some cases the reason may be temporary, but for the majority, it is permanent.
Some of these shooters only need to make minor changes to their technique, or to use a helpful gadget; others have tailor-made equipment and are unable to adopt any of the conventional prone, standing or kneeling positions.
Part 2 – The Solution.
For quite a few years now, the NSRA has had a system for allowing such people to take part in most of the competitions run under NSRA rules. This includes the majority of domestic championships, leagues and open shoots.
Any shooter who falls within the field outlined in Part 1 may apply to the Association for a dispensation. If it is granted, he or she can take part in competitions run under NSRA rules.
In the first decade of the 21st century, the NSRA issued dispensations to approximately 60 shooters. Some have more than one because they shoot more than one discipline.

No, not the two chaps from the SSRA Committee who are pictured in the photograph, although they are excellent shots in their own right. But the mere sight of the brand new Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association Team Banner being unfurled at competitions will be enough to give the opposing teams the shakes before the shooting commences, as it heralds the presence of the Staffordshire Team.
The Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association Team when participating in events around the country will proudly display the banner. This will undoubtedly help to further promote the team, and add a touch of colourful charisma to their attendance.

What is RSS?
RSS is a technology that is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favorite websites.
In the ‘old days’ of the web, to keep track of updates on a website, you had to ‘bookmark’ websites in your browser and manually return to them on a regular basis to see what had been added.

There are even 'Stand Alone' RSS Readers available to download for free.
