SSRA Combined Open Squadded Rifle Meeting 2022 - A Pictorial Record

At last, after a wait of three years, the Staffordshire Smallbore Rifle Association Combined Open Squadded Rifle Meeting was finally back, as it welcomed all to the picturesque setting of The Chipperfield Ranges, Baldwins Gate.
Although the number of participants was ever-so slightly down on the 2019 attendance figures, there was still a very competitive and eager list of competitors just itching to get started on the firing points, and once again tackle the tricky and rather challenging conditions of the infamous Chipperfield Ranges.
The sun was shining, birds were merrily chirping away, and the pleasant crack of shots being released welcomed the start of what was to be another exciting Staffordshire Open Competition. But, there was something missing ... something vitally important ... the most important element of the day. The refreshments van!
How could the day continue without the aroma of bacon and sausages wafting over the lush green grass, providing a tantalising reminder of what would be available to the shooters once their detail had ended?
Nerves were jangled, and worried looks crept across the faces of those in need of sustenance ... especially the SSRA Website Manager Paul Barker who was taking the photos on the day (whom, it could be argued, that by not having something juicy to scoff down his neck for once would do him the world of good - only kidding).
But help was on hand. Following a telephone call from Jim Taylor, the owner of the stricken catering van, SSRA's very own hero of the hour burst into life and saved the day. Yes, it was SSRA Chairman Richard Tilstone whom gallantly leapt onto his trusty steed (well ... 4x4 actually) and brought the goodies safely home to the ranges. Hurrah for Richard and Jim. All was once again well with the world.
And so, to business - let battle commence.

The above photograph shows that it's not all about noisy rifles and mooching about on the floor - much better to have a relaxing read instead - who can blame them.
